Orbital Notation

Orbirtal notation goes hand in hand with electron configuration. You will need to do electron configuration before you can move onto drawing the orbital notation.

*Pauli Exclusion Principle states in electron pairs, one has an up spin and one has a downspin.

*Hund's rule is a rule that states every orbital needs to have one electron before any can have two.

The diagram drawn in orbital notation deviates directly from electron configuration.

Here's what I'm talking about:

A few more rules-

If something is referring to the ground state, that means the normal way of doing orbital notation abiding by Hund's rule. However, if it breaks Hund's rule it is now in it's excited state

To practice, draw the ground state and a variation of a potential excited state of Oxygen.
